Alessio vs. Larson set for WEC in March

John Alessio has been tapped to square off with Brock Larson on World Extreme Cagefighting’s tentatively planned March card in Sacramento, Calif., said a source close to the Vancouver, British Columbia native. The bout is said to be a contender’s match, with the victor facing WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit later this year, possibly as early as the summer.

Alessio (21-10) has won three in a row, his last loss coming against Condit (21-4) back in March. Larson (22-2), too, has lost to Condit via armbar that looked like Larson's arm was still in Condit's hand 2 minutes later.

Whoever wins, the fight with Condit should be a spectacular one given both fighters are wanting to avenge losses. Brock Larson is a mean looking dude with a ton of muscle but something just isn't right with Carlos Condit up the old noggin. Seems like that elevator don't go to the top floor. It's going to be tough for either of these fighters when they do face Condit.

Come on man. Alessio has 10 losses. He's wins 66% of the time. Larson should destroy him and even if he (Larson) wins, he wont exactly make a gigantic leap in the minds of most MMA fans. Its a fight he HAS to win. Can't lose to anyone with 10 losses nowadays and expect to get a contract with the UFC, WEC or whoever.

My question is, Condit is awesome, Larson is a peg below, are they still not good enough for the UFC or are they being used to promote the WEC? Jeremy 'Mayhem' Miller (funniest man on the planet) said it was insulting to the fighters due to the WEC having attendence figures of about 300 people. It's like the old pro wrestling NWA in the 80's.

WEC only has 300 people per event? I guess they have to hold onto some decent fighters in order to keep the organization going. I'm guessing they need guys like Faber, Condit and Larson to keep the viewers interest.
