A potential deal between Takanori Gomi and the UFC has fallen through. It was rumored that Gomi, if a deal was made, was going to face the UFC's rising star Frankie Edgar.
The bout was accepted under the circumstances that the UFC would secure Gomi who was the reigning Pride lightweight champion. Once the deal fell through, so did the fight.
There was no reason as to why the deal fell through or if they plan on negotiating again in the near future. If Gomi does test the market and land in another organization, chalk another tiny blemish on the UFC's record.
Gomi would be a great addition to the UFC but in reality, Dana White doesn't need him that bad. The lightweight division is stacked and I'm certain White has a good 2 years of fights already lined up.
