Jake Shields vs. Drew Fickett for EliteXC 170 lb. Title

Jake Sheilds is set to take on Drew Fickett for the rights to wear the first-ever EliteXC 170-pound title belt. T he championship bout will take place on the Strikeforce and EliteXC co-promoted "Shamrock vs. Le" event on March 29 in San Jose, California.

Shields (20-4-1) is a former Shooto champion with victories over Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, Dave Menne, Renato "Charuto" Verissimo, and Hayato "Mach" Sakurai. I n April 2006, the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu product defeated Condit and Okami in one night to win the Rumble on the Rock Grand Prix. Shields is currently on a nine-fight win streak.

Fickett (31-5) is a solid opponent with a dangerous rear naked choke, which he has utilized to secure six of his last seven wins. The move has helped the 7-time UFC veteran get his hand raised over Josh Koscheck, Josh Neer, Kurt Pellegrino and most recently, Mark Weir.

This is exactly what Dana White doesn't want to see. Jake Shields is a sick fighter who has wins over some big time opponents, and the same goes for Drew Fickett. White's gotta know that this should be a UFC fight.

This bout could be the very beginning of the smaller organization clawing its way in the MMA world. A world that's ruled and monopolized by Dana White.
