Cory MacDonald defeats Edwin Dewees in Nova Scotia

Local boy Cory MacDonald pounded out UFC vet and former TUF 4 alum Edwin 'Bam Bam' Dewees in the first round Saturday night. The fight was the main event of the Phoenix Fight Promotions show at the Halifax Forum.

Dewees, 25, has now lost his last 4 fights and is struggling to land a solid fight organization, and having to fight on short notice which doesn't give him the best chance to win. He might be best remembered for decisioning Gideon Ray during TUF 4. It wasn't that he beat Ray, he had a nasty gash opened from a sharp elbow on his forehead. Blood was pouring out as if someone had just turned on the faucet. The mat looked like a crime scene when the fight was over.

Dewees is still young but having a losing streak like this can damage a person mentally. Especially when it's not the top competition. He seemed to be a fan favorite on the show but it's safe to assume his UFC days are done. Then again, the middleweight division could always use a tough veteran to test a newcomer.
